Bundoo Khan Restaurant, Dubai

A friend had recommended Bundoo Khan Restaurant in Dubai to enjoy the similar desi barbecue taste. We went in for a first hand experience. The interior was awesome, the best (amongst Pakistani Restaurants) that I have yet seen in the UAE ... Lal Qila is still in my queue though. Anyway, its pricey and its classy, no question about it.

The location is very simple, its close to the Marriot Executive Apartments in Dubai, near the Clock Tower R/A in Deira. The building is managed by Clover. The famous Noodle House, is also in the same building. Free vallet parking is also available, or you could self park in one of the 2 basements and take the elevator to the 1st floor.

The occupied area is large, with a seating for no less than 50 people. The receptionist (though from african descent) wears typical pakistani ladies shalwar qameez suit and Munni Begum and the likes are played as ambience. There are a few "Char Pai"s (a traditional bed) next to the tables as well. A colored water fountain and other decoratives fill up the place. The glasses are metallic/desi style and the waiters wear a dull orange shalwar qameez.

There is a live cooking station, where you could see some work going on. At that time 8-9pm, there were only 2 other families around, nevertheless couple of waiters were roaming around and the service level was very good. The staff were friendly and not (ill)trained to speak english at all costs, no matter how bad it was ... +1 for that!

The only dissapointment was the taste, and that too in all the 3 dishes we tried. Mutton Seekh Kababs, Chicken Handi and the Behari (Boti) Kabab. All dishes lacked the real raw touch of barbecue, I am not an expert but to me it tasted like it was not purely prepared over fire. Other than the touch, there was no uniqueness in the taste, it was just another thing you put in your mouth......boring. The only satisfactory item were the Parathas, which were done to perfection and served timely in 2 batches.

The bill will definitely be classified as being over-expensive. For those who prefer eyes over tounge, its justified. For others like me who go to a restaurant for that similar desi taste, this is a bit of a dissapointment. You could pay a lot lesser and get the taste that you are craving for (Barbecue Delights for instance).

I feel that if the management would work on the taste, this could easily become one of the best Pakistani eateries in the UAE.
